Pros

Johnson Controls is made for two types of people: 1. People who are from the Midwest or specifically Milwaukee and want to stay there. The company has the same benefits most large companies in the area have and the pay is decent. You can join and just coast for as long as you want. 2. People who play the conservative political game hard. Want to climb the corporate ladder? Don't care what you have to do to get there? JCI is the place for you. It's conservative, it's incredibly political so come play the game.

Cons

JCI is not looking to be competitive with benefits cause they really don't have to. Consider 10 days of vacation generous. The bad to good people ratio is way off for a company this size. There are good people, but you gotta work to find them. It's a huge company, that is rather volatile, incredibly conservative, especially for millennials, and really they're just cost cutting to make money at this point.

Pros

Deep pockets and name recognition in the industry. Good front line people who want to do the right thing. Top down management is effective at driving change - always strategically nimble...but operationally stressed

Cons

Kind of a "frat boy" management culture that rewards insiders and pushes out everyone else - typical perhaps of old school Midwestern business, but out of step with the multi-national company they have become. Current CEO is a product of that culture and it shows. Tough place to work for mid-career professionals coming from anywhere else. You need to start here out of college and be OK with towing the company line. JCI has always been a stockholder friendly outfit with less regard for employee or customer satisfaction compared to their peers (in building efficiency anyway..)

Pros

Workforce has some great talent and personalities. Enjoyed working with everyone there.

Cons

Wouldn't trust anything management states. Moved into a newly created role in June. Position was eliminated 3 months later. Every role held evolved into something different than what was presented as a selling point to take the new position. In the 4+ years I spent with JCI, there were 5 internal reorganizations and that does not count any of the divestitures or spin-offs. Basically there is no upper level direction.
