Pros

Johnson Controls is a fantastic company to work for! The PTO and holiday schedule are generous, and I’ve found the work-life balance to be exceptional. As a Digital Campaign Specialist, I feel valued and empowered to try new strategies and technologies. The team is supportive and open to new ideas.

Cons

Honestly, I can’t think of any cons to mention.

Pros

Pro's depend on where you sit in the organization. Broadly, JCI is a focused, mission-driven organization leading sustainability and smart-building innovations worldwide. The technology is strong, very strong, we have a data-driven culture, and the work is meaningful. There are endless routes to professional development (you just need to put in the work), and you'll be exposed to teams and people of all walks of life from around the world. JCI's people are its greatest asset. There is a huge collection of really excellent people here. If you enjoy how that sounds, you'll enjoy working here.

Cons

The higher you climb, the more complex the organizational layers get. The closer you are to the customer, however, the less you'll see that complexity. Essentially, the Con's depend on where you sit in the organization. Broadly speaking, JCI sets high expectations that require resilience and adaptability. Your focus is occasionally taxed by news and moves from other levels of the org. You need to train yourself to focus on what matters most to you and not let what you can't control affect what you can control.

Pros

Good pay & medical benefits. It's great for getting hands-on experience after college and they are very actively targeting young people & entry level positions. The company was founded by an inventor, so there is an underlying ethos of chasing innovative ideas. There is also a strong culture of ethics & safety so while pressure to achieve results is very high, you will not be asked to do questionable or unsafe things to get there.

Cons

Frequent strategy shifts, re-organizations, leadership changes & lay-offs that has led to very short-term results focus only (this quarter, maybe this year). Turnover is quite high at all levels of the organization, Investment in fundamental or scalable transformational work is very limited and ability to serve customers well is challenging with outdated software tools, processes & policies. Lots of initiatives or software upgrades start but never finish and get tossed out by the next leader that takes it over. Meaningful professional development & promotion in collaboration with your managers is almost non-existent since leaders change so quickly. The culture is 'figure it out yourself' for development, how to perform well in your role & how best to adapt to changes in the business strategy and direction.

Thank you for sharing such a detailed and thoughtful review. We're glad you’ve found value in our pay, benefits, and commitment to ethics, safety, and innovation, especially for early-career professionals. We also hear your concerns around frequent changes, leadership turnover, and the impact on long-term progress and development. Your feedback about finishing what we start and listening to those closest to the work is especially important. We appreciate your insights and will share them with the appropriate teams as we continue working to strengthen our culture and operations.
