Big pros & big cons

Pros

Wonderful school admin Remote Much healthier work-life balance than ever possible working in Brick & Mortar

Cons

Horrible pay- if K12 Stride would even attempt to get closer to industry standard or Brick & mortar averages, they would see sooo much less turnover and much more invested staff. You get the level of dedication and effort that you pay for. Constant changes to the structure of how the schools operate make it difficult to keep up with all the systems. Mandatory in-person state testing only applies to some. Stride pays for contractors to support testing sites, but the testing coordinators will still demand school staff come to test sites 3-5 days per week for all 8+ weeks of state testing. Most the contractors sit on couches and do nothing while the regular employees run around doing the testing work AND try to balance all their regular work load. It’s a joke.

Pros

Regular shifts, 40-hours per week. All remote. Cooperative management and supportive culture. GWUOHS is a great program. Great online resources for teachers to provide engaging instruction.

Cons

Prime example of private industry infiltrating public school districts, leaving too much room for inequity, academic dishonesty, and overall waste. Business model is antithetical to public school's mission of 'free, fair, and equitable' education. If the partnering school district and personnel are not invested in the online teachers' success, the program is an expensive way to fail.
