Pros

Most of engineers are really dedicated, intelligent and hard working. Excellent Benefits and reasonable 401k match. Peaceful and quiet town to stay in and good overall work life balance.

Cons

There is a big disconnect between the management and the engineers. Every individual is treated as a resouce and can be allocated to any task no matter how bad it matches with their experience and interest. Typical Silo'd groups where once you get good at something you will be labeled with it and always get the same kind of work . Career progression and skill development have no scope. If you try to learn on your own and try to do something you are not experienced in you are immediately told that this is not part of your job duty and there is another group responsible for that.

Comfortable Career

Pros

Helpful, friendly co-workers. Minimum of ego-driven discord/betrayal. Good benefits (except 401k) Pay is average to better-than average. Management makes sure employees have all the tools necessary to do their professional jobs. No age discrimination! This is one of the few high tech companies that genuinely hires older qualified employees regardless of age. Stable workforce. Many employees have been with the company 20+ years. Reputable company, with high quality products

Cons

Privately owned. No stock option. No way to participate in success of company (except if success is defined as keeping your job...). Cost of housing is outrageous in the Goleta/Santa Barbara area. Lack of equity participation, coupled with high cost of housing in the Goleta/Santa Barbara area means company has a difficult time attracting transformative top talent. Miserly 401k matching. Low percentage, and long vesting period.

El Segundo - Poor Management

Pros

Incomparable health benefits and location.

Cons

Management lacks consistencies with Core Values of company. Management lacks the skills to successfully and properly lead a cohesive work environment. African Americans are commonly over-looked for middle management and upper management positions and are pacified with less than notable positions and meager salary increases. The rules of engagement with Management often shifts without consistency.
