Pros

The national KIPP network invests heavily in thriving KIPP schools and school leaders it believes exemplify their values. The national KIPP mission and values promote inclusion and equity.

Cons

Voices of students and teachers are often silenced by those very leaders or the regional boards who operate as barriers rather than funnels of service and support. The national KIPP values are not realized at all levels, in all schools, or for staff and students and student families.

Pros

Teaching the kids was fun. Improving as a teacher was rewarding. Learning the curriculum was fun. So the practice of teaching itself was fun and also having a 5 star lead teacher to lead the way was awesome! Also the resident program with Relay supported me with a mentor that was brilliant at teaching math. He helped a lit with explaining math. I was on fire as a math teacher, within five months, I was running the entire classroom from start to end as a lead teacher. I had got to the point where my lesson plans was on point! Also, it wasn't hard to get there.

Cons

Messy colleagues. Gossiping, being "petty" as one teaching like to call it. As a resident with relay, everything was good at first, but when I did not meet their metrics for where I was suppose to be within the onboarding process, they came down pretty hard. It was aggressive and I felt physically threaten because of their tone of voice. Whenever I gave my opinion, asked a question, or just anything I did to defend myself was seen as not taking feedback well. Also, relay had a messy professor. She told me someone told her that i did not have the right teacher mindset because I stopped teaching one day, and she believes it. I was shocked because every teacher in the building would pause or stop teaching. I just thought why would you believe another resident. The story was totally false. Also, every black man tat was hired that year was fired. The women were aggressive toward male teachers. I once heard a teacher say them men don't do nothing around here no way. It was just a messy workplace and the dance teacher was the worst, she walked in my classroom and just started telling kids what to do in front of me implying that she has more authority of me. Tbh, its not worth teaching and Kipp Vision in ATL. Better off going someone else.

Pros

They have high expectations for you and the kids! The team wants to succeed.

Cons

Say goodbye to work life balance! You can lesson plan and prep all day and night and still feel like you are not meeting the needs of your students, your admin, and most certainly not your own needs.
