Pros
I was an engineer for several years. Most of my colleagues were very intelligent and experienced; a pleasure to work with. The technology was cutting edge and I learned a great deal and was able to contribute a great deal as well.
Cons
Endemic back-stabbing, lying, favoritism, and incompetence among the management at all levels. If you were lucky you might get a courageous person as your immediate manager who could shield you from his dictatorial and out-of-touch-with-reality superiors. If you were unlucky such a person would be your boss. Lots of turnover. The best people I knew have already left or been forced out.
