Pros
US coworkers in the commissioning department are very friendly and helpful. Traveling is really interesting though as this job requires 75% travel time. There are some skills that are related to development that can be learned through this job. Learning to work with a group is a skill that will be learned quickly through this job. The work environment is pretty relaxed, shorts and t-shirts are allowed, but most people wear jeans and t-shirt, at least for this department.
Cons
Working with Austrians can be hit or miss. Many times they will speak German around if you are the only non-German speaker around. The work of a Software Systems Engineer was not what I expected when joining. No development whatsoever. Pay is not good, $28/hr. My classmates from college make much more than that. They try to justify the low pay with the 60hr weeks that are worked when traveling (60hrs/week are required when traveling). So yearly I make comparable with my classmates, but I have to work 37.5% more than my old classmates per year.
