Pros

Lots of support and training is provided to teachers. Jobs are transferable to other locations. Hourly wage is good for a part-time job.

Cons

It can be difficult to manage classrooms with widely varying skill levels. Students are demanding and require a lot of energy.

Pros

For a recent college grad desperate for a job, Kaplan Test Prep is golden. They offer health and dental insurance and you can get a pretax metro to save a couple of bucks. The salary isn't great, but you can get by check to check. Management is very forgiving, and likely to give another chance if you make a mistake. In certain weather conditions management gives staff the opportunity to work from home. There is a "fun room" which includes a Xbox, and a ping pong table which was provided by management to help the staff relieve themselves of stress. Work / Life balance is great as you work a typical 8 hour shift (no paid lunch) clock in and clock out. The people at Kaplan make it what it really is, but the turnover is high so you see a lot of great people come and go quickly. For a recent college grad in search of a job, this place is a great start. Job is relatively simple, with the most challenging part is having patience with the customers calling in.

Cons

Since this is a call center, managers stare at a computer screen micromanaging their employees "ready for next call time" and "not ready for next call time" if you're not ready for a minute you may hear them yell "Hey... can you go ready please." which get's distracting if you're working on post call issues. Rarely does management take advice from employees who are on the calls hearing customer complaints/opinions etc... It gets very frustrating when your suggestions aren't taken seriously and a lot of the staff get's discouraged. There was massive random layoffs, and staff wasn't informed how the selection process was made, which then made everybody in fear for their job. Products get pushed to customers with multiple issues, and sometimes unusable leaving the CCC responsible for taming the frustration. Unfortunately the CCC can't resolve the issues because the problem lays within the product thus leaving reps a scapegoat for a customer yelling their frustrations

A good corporate job

Pros

There are lots of talented, skilled and fun people to work with. There are a variety of projects to work on. The work environment is relaxed, with good work / life balance. The pay is competitive, and the benefits are good.

Cons

The opportunity to innovate is stifled by institutional resistance to change. There are too many low-value projects being worked on. Performance management (performance objectives, employee development) is an exercise in "going through the motions".
