Pros

Many internal resources that come with a large organization owned by a public company. Great opportunity for professional growth and advancement. They hire good people and many are fun and interesting to work with. Great place to work once you are in a an executive position. Top management (President, Divisional Heads) are talented visionaries and inspire confidence.

Cons

Executives can be somewhat arrogant and treat staff poorly (even though their bosses are the opposite). Problems in other divisions can effect top performing divisions. The company may have peaked and the economy and challenges from smaller market players may make it hard to maintain market share of this once great, for-profit educational company.

Pros

Many of the staff are very talented and competent. The availability of free study for staff is very good, and an offer that I would have taken up, had I stayed at Kaplan. The recent implementation of a professional development program was a very positive move for staff and morale.

Cons

Sometimes talent went unrecognised, and many long serving staff were not put forward for promotion or development. There were some inconsistencies around the kinds of opportunities that were advertised and those that were realistically available. Some staff were subject to a drastic change/extension to their job description without prior consultation.

Pros

Kaplan had a lot of different opportunities and at different locations. There was always something different to do and to learn. Being around the students and staff was great.

Cons

The management did not respect the boundaries or personal lives of the employees. If you didn't want to sacrifice your family time it was like there was something wrong with you.
