Pros

The best reasons to work at Kaplan is the opportunity for career growth and advancement, great people, and the international and domestic network of affiliates. Depending on one's division, advancement is plentiful. The work/life balance is a priority and this is evident in the paid time off provided as well as the work from home option for several departments. Kaplan's parent company is the Washington Post and because of that connection, even more opportunities for advancement or lateral movement is available.

Cons

lower level employee consideration pertaining to insurance and educational benefits. Communication and training deficiency of new hires. Enrolls incompetent students to make a profit which creates a poor work environment within some departments. Kaplan is a reactive environment rather than proactive, waiting for enough negativity or poor ROI before making changes.

Pros

At Kaplan you'll work with many intelligent people who are passionate about what they do. There are lots of opportunities for ambitious people to learn and be commended for good work, and it's a great place for people who are interested in breaking into the education industry. Health, dental, and vacation benefits are very good. Three weeks of vacation are offered to most entry-level employees. Yearly reviews are given a lot of attention and good work will be appropriately noted. Casual dress policy is observed to a pretty high level, so more junior employees don't have to feel uncomfortable for wearing jeans.

Cons

Although you'll be praised for you work, you won't be compensated for it. Although you can learn a lot from your co-workers, Kaplan isn't enthusiastic to fund out-of-office education relevant to your career, and things you learn don't necessarily translate into opportunities for advancement and career growth. Promotions are slow-coming (generally only awarded after many years) and the pay is very low. Expectations are generally very high and many employees at all levels are expected to work long hours with no comp time, overtime, or compensation of any sort, although they will generally be thanked verbally and with company celebrations.

By working in the field, you have the opportunity to directly help students and professionals navigate the graduate school admissions process everyday. Pros: Lots of responsibility given to "green"/entry-level employees. Diverse set of work responsibilities for most job titles. Company infrastructure (intranet, business systems, etc) was extremely user-friendly and helped make your job easier.

Cons

Cons: Low pay Long hours Huge variance of job function and management expectations between different offices for people with the same job title.
