      Brilliant product; heartening team

      Pros

      The product saves lives. Without any pretense or BS. If nothing else, this gets you out of bed in the morning. Culture and overall value of people is vibrant, open, and creative — without being sickeningly pro-social. There are a lot of company 'rituals' that help everyone to feel welcome. Some of the most genuinely brilliant and driven people I've ever worked with.

      Cons

      In a marketplace positioned as an 'underdog', with a big target on its back. The stakes are high and so can be the stress levels. Very different management styles among team leads seems to be creating silos and very different overall characterizations of the company.

      Losing momentum

      Pros

      Science and technology sound good on paper but are not useful yet. Very expensive test with not much value. Lots of perks and gifts for team members- almost too many.

      Cons

      Senior and middle management teams are not competent and need to be changed. HR laid off  many people for Covid reasons but are hiring replacements. Employee morale is low and churn is high. Business is not doing well overall.

      Cool product, interesting business decisions

      - Unclear choices in priorities and decision making - Very unclear direction - Employee insights were not valued at all - No data-driven action - Did not believe in data when making business decisions

As with many startups in the valley, we are still learning about what works and what doesn’t work for Karius. Related to your comments on unclear direction, priorities and decision making, feedback was not valued, and didn’t follow data with business decisions or actions.
