I enjoyed learning and working with the SCADA software. Most of my teammates were pretty good to work with.
Cons
Juggling 25 tickets simultaneously was overwhelming. There's too much overhead in managing that instead of solving issues. To make a change in the SCADA system, you MUST first write up a request and get that approved by 3 levels of management. So there's at least a 24 hour delay between the time you're assigned a ticket, and the time you can actually fix the issue. Also, there's 3 different time tracking systems. Every minute of your day has to be entered into the time tracking system and connected to a ticket. That's even more overhead. Everything is tracked to the Nth degree, even if you're a salary employee. The weekly meetings were fine, but management also liked to pop into your cube unannounced once or twice a week. That was annoying because it disrupted my flow and made me have to reorient my thinking toward high level summaries instead of solving low level issues. HR is involved in too many aspects of the employee experience there. They are nit picky about everything. It's like big brother is everywhere. There is no trust. It's stressful. All the Cons explain why so many people have left the SCADA department. If the experience I had in the SCADA department exists in other departments, then this explains why Kinder Morgan hasn't grown nearly as much as its competitors. If you need 1 hour away during business hours to handle a personal matter, they make you take vacation time instead of working an hour later in the day.
