Pros
As a whole, the job security at KM is outstanding as lay offs are non-existent, the benefits are on par with industry standard, and flexibility within employee's individual schedules is a plus. The respect and attitudes, employee v. employee, operations v. management are for the most part agreeable which helps with the overall atmosphere of day to day working conditions. Implementing safety features such as dual verification has helped mitigate controller miscues and provide an important aid for all controllers. There is plenty of room for growth within KM. Every sector of mgmt within the terminal has an open door policy and are always willing to listen to any and all thoughts, suggestions, or concerns.
Cons
Employee turnover in regards to pipeline controllers has slowed drastically, but is and can be an issue. The HMI/SCADA for controllers is archaic and training can seem at times as sink or swim. The overall workload is unprecedented when compared to other Oil and Gas terminals and the pay does not come close to reflecting such output. Yearly bonuses are below average for controllers and the outline for how bonuses are calculated are poorly conveyed to controllers, especially when compared to the amount of product moved per employee, per console. Biased towards ex-military and KM has a "mgmt in waiting" program for ex-military. Although expectations should always be high, mgmt. yields an uncompromising attitude towards controller miscues when you compare the amount of workload and simply product being moved throughout the terminal.
