      Great mission with good balance for employees

      Pros

      Great company and draws in talented people. Flexible with hours/appointments as long as you get your work done. Great mission and that's what drives most people.

      Cons

      There is a heavy reliance on interns so every 4-5 months, there will be new training that is distracting as well as another 30 interns that are getting to know the company. Interns are also unpaid.

      Pros

      Singular mission - this is a group of people who believe that they can make a positive change in the world. Great benefits (free trip almost anywhere in the world every two years, good family medical/dental benefits, 401k match, etc). Supportive and collaborative environment

      Cons

      Many of the usual sacrifices associated with working for a nonprofit organization apply here (salary, resource constraints, etc) even though it feels like a tech startup.

      Pros

      - Incredible work-life flexibility in terms of work hours and sick leave - The people are very focused on Kiva's mission -- this is the most socially-conscious group of technical people I've found in a work environment. And they are a delight to hang out with.

      Cons

      - It's a very young company -- lots of "family" dynamics, and they are going through some organizational growing pains - Know what you're getting into. If you're on the consumer web side, the magic is in the mission that you are helping to fulfill, not the technical challenge / cutting-edgeness of what you are doing.
