Pros

The one thing I truly enjoy about working at Kohl's is some of the awesome people I work with. What you have to keep in mind is that it is retail so there are going to be challenges. If you enjoy working with people this may be a job for you. Scheduling is flexible for part time associates. This is an excellent job for someone who is in school that may be living at home without a lot of bills to pay. The Associate discount is fair, it was just raised to 15% on everything and there are special days every few months where it is doubled to 30% When i first started working at Kohl's I was very surprised that the discount even applies to clearance items.

Cons

There are several major downsides to working at Kohl's. The pay is really very low, even by retail standards. I make hardly over minimum wage and the periodic raises seem like they will barely even keep up with the raise in minimum wage. The other downside is that if you are part time do not expect to see many hours on your schedule. Advancement opportunities are possible but unfortunately someone has to leave or be promoted in order for anything to open up.

Pros

Employee discounts are definitely the best perk of working at Kohls, Inc. I worked for Kohls for 3 years, and enjoyed the discounts and knowing the sales beforehand. Kohl's offers many benefits and new training programs for associates. Kohls also demostrates good management within the company and within the stores. Store associates get along and all discuss problems that they might have without having to hide it from each other. Kohls is a good place to be if you like working with people.

Cons

Management is rude and condescending. If you missed your credit goal, you would be berated infront of fellow employees. In case they are unaware, we are in a credit crisis, and most people do NOT want to be spending money.

Pros

This company provides health, dental, and eye benefits, 401k benefits, and tuition reimbursement for both full and part-time employees, which is one of the best things the company has to offer. Not many companies offer benefits to their part-time workers, but Kohl's does. In addition, the employee discount is 10% off hardlines items (shoes, home goods, etc) and 15% off softlines (clothing, accessories). This may not sound like much, but these discounts are on top of sale prices and markdown prices, so it does add up. Scheduling is flexible if you are part-time.

Cons

Management is mediocre at best, and communication amongst the members of management, as well as communication between associates and management is unheard of. Management is full of empty promises that are never fufilled, and while there is plenty of room for advancement within each store, more often than not the promotions go to the most underqualified member of the team. While the jobs are simple and straightforward, training is overlooked. Employees are expected to follow "Kohl's Best Practices", but those rules and regulations are NEVER conveyed. Don't hold your breath if you desire praise or positive feedback for accomplishments or a job well-done. Good work is never rewarded. On the flip side, breaking the rules is never punished. You could kill someone and still keep your job. This is a lower-level retail job, so the types of people you get to work with are varied. The management is generally uneducated, and have limited job experience. While the company provides tuition reimbursement, management frowns upon anyone trying to further their education while they are employeed at the company (ironic?). Activites outside of work that might restrict your schedule--including family, school, or another job--are also frowned upon. This company is clueless about the meaning of work-life balance.
