Working Hard to create an image that isn't true

Pros

Great facilities, excellent compensation plan.

Cons

Kohl's is aware that they are in a declining industry and spend the majority of their resources to portray the image that they are prosperous and growing. Constant downsizing is hidden and aggressive plans to manage salary through bringing in college talent at minimum salaries is catching up with their ability to remain competitive. The most disturbing policy hinges upon their main deliverable of increasing employee engagement. All associates are surveyed each year under the guise of action planning but the clear direction is to understand who does not rate the company well and help them find their way out of the company. This is a standard practice at the highest levels in the Human Resources Department. If you would like to work there/retain your employment, be sure to constantly express your pleasure and commitment to the company direction and if you have any opinions that vary for the company guidelines, under no circumstances should you share them.

Pros

Great staff and benefits. Company cares about personal wellness and health. Good morale amongst direct peers. Very competitive pay for metropolitan area.

Cons

Very long hours. Expected to be available 24 hours a day. Zero to no work life balance. Constant email to your personal cellular device. Payroll to run an effective business is zero to non existent. Sales staff is over worked and under compensated. Customers can return whatever they want whenever they want. They can yell and threaten to call corporate and always get their way. 99% of customers are friendly and pleasant. 1% ruins it for the others creating a messy undesirable shopping experience.

Pros

Kohl's has many hard working employees and some great supervisors that try to assist you as much as they can.

Cons

•They allow a few favored cashiers to manage/bully other cashiers - especially if you are new. •There is no teamwork and it is not a friendly atmosphere to work in. •You're on your own to know all of the store's coupons, discounts, pricing changes which are numerous and constantly changing. •If you don't get a lot of store credit cards opened daily and get high ratings on their store survey, you will be pulled off the register and put on the floor or made to feel you don't belong there. •Working on the floor is very demanding physically; you're constantly cleaning up numerous departments while running around answering questions for customers and assisting cashiers on customer product questions and prices. Kohl's expects you to perform like a superhuman for a minimum wage salary - liken to slave labor. It's no wonder the turnover rate is so high.
