Pros

Decent benefits, including medical, vision, etc. Adoption assistance, tuition reimbursement, employee assistance program, gym membership discounts, discount program for entertainment (concert/movie tickets, theme park admissions). Can also purchase goods like furniture, electronics, etc. through payroll deduction. Also, the employee discount.

Cons

Advancement is difficult unless you're willing to transfer. It's also a high school like atmosphere, with definite cliques and a very active (generally inaccurate) rumor mill. Work life is much easier if you're popular. Unless you excel at soliciting credit, you receive very few kudos. Payroll is tied to whether daily store sales goals are met. It's more common to be short on payroll, which means some will be asked to take a day off, leaving the remaining employees with a heavier workload. There's a lot of flexibility in the enforcement of rules, especially if the rule bender is a favorite of management (meaning they get a lot of credit applications). Some managers demonstrate little professionalism, i.e. being consistently late, reprimanding employees on the sales floor with others as witnesses, and gossiping about other employees, to name a few. Boundaries between management and floor associates are inconsistent;

Pros

The pros to working at Kohl's are the flexible work hours--so if you have another job, you are in school, etc you can usually still get shifts. Employees also get to stack their employee discount on top of other discounts on merchandise.

Cons

Kohl's has one of the lowest hourly pay rates in the retail industry; the management tries to squeeze as much work out of the fewest number of associates as possible, i.e., you may be scheduled to work in the shoe department but be summoned as back up cashier constently and to also provide carry out assistance to a customer-all at the same time-it's impossible! Also, management routinely schedules associates for shifts and assigns tasks that are the responsibility of supervisors, all the while paying the associate the much lower pay rate. They also don't tell you when you are hired that your pay raise is tied to your evaluation which is mainly tied to the # of credit applications from customers you have solicited. No matter how dependable you are or how well you do your job, or how customer serviced oriented you are, none of that matters. Management attempts to motivate with "jeans day" or "pancake day" but these things don't address the underlying problems with the working environment. Employee morale is generally horrible and the turnover rate is extremely high!
