Pros

Managing at Kohl's is fun and challenging. The associates for the most part are fun to work with and enjoy their job. The work is diverse and requires creativity and quick decision making. The culture of Kohl's is service oriented and gives you tools to make people happy.

Cons

It really comes down to the store you are in and the team around you. Seeing several different stores I can say that there are very distinct personalities for stores, and you may or may not find one that fits who you are. If you don't, they are not afraid to run you over. Welcome to retail. The hours are terrible, and you can never do enough. There is always pressure to come in/stay just a little(lot) longer. A great job lasts until the next sentence coming out of someone's mouth. This is not a job where people pat each other on the back. People are catty about many things- Credit, workload, food in the break room... That's not exclusive to retail, but often times you are left with the parental duties of separating bickering "children". If you can work very hard and feel fulfilled through your own work, results and interpersonal relationships, then this may be a good job for you. Also, be sure you don't mind pushing credit credit credit. Often times it will feel like the only metric that truly matters.

Pros

Fellow associates generally support each other, and make a "positive" environment possible. Schedules are flexible. Numerous locations in urban areas makes it a convenient employment choice.

Cons

Expectations are unrealistically high. The workload is absurd, and if an employee has prior department store retail experience, is self-motivated, and is a hard worker by nature, the "Cons" are only worse. The workload is uneven as there is always (company-wide,) a limited amount of staffing, and while there may be additional "bodies" on the clock, the work is not delegated to ensure productivity from all. Working conditions makes it feel more like a warehouse job rather than one in a "family-oriented" department store. Extremely cramped working spaces, stockrooms, too much merchandise, equipment to move merchandise, and more, make for a constant hazardous working environment. There are no accolades to any accomplishments...this applies to both what is in your job description, and to what is accomplished above & beyond. Management lacks even the basic level of skill. Company-wide, there appears to be no set standard with regard to Human Resources. Little communication between all levels of management...within a given location and between site to corporate. Often associates are left to "guess" what the procedures of the day (or moment,) are and are constantly at risk for being spoken to in demeaning manners. All in all, working for this company is chaos, and the pay is no where near what it should be.

Pros

I feel it is a great place for mothers to work due to the flexible hours and that they work with you when you need time off.

Cons

just that they don't seem to match up your expertise; they feel they could just throw you wherever they feel like it and expect you to perform to a perfection. And they never schedule enough cashiers on busy sales days if they are going to run all of those sales then they better come up with the staff.
