Pros

Great perks available to Associates which is why I've stayed as long as I have. Good pay, some flexibility depending on who your manager is.

Cons

Not as much work-life balance as they would lead you to believe. Wide gap in how salary & hourly are treated - almost as if hourly are "worthless" or not "up to standard" to receive the same benefits as salary. Little to no appreciation. It's all in who you know and that's the only way you'll ever be able to move internally into another role.

Pros

Ok place for a first job, but not more than that. My advice...get your experience and get out! Find a company that will actually pay you for a job well done.

Cons

They really don't care about their employees, regardless of what they say. Worst pay in the industry. Some stores are being told to only give the full timers 32 hours. Promoting inexperienced young people to salaried positions because they can live at Kohls and are willing to work for less than the position should pay. They are cutting payroll to the point where there is not enough employees to keep the store looking good for the customers, much less take care of the tasks that are required. They are cutting back on benefits especially for the part timers. One year they gave me a minimum raise then took it back by changing the percentage they paid on the benefits. (even though the insurance rates did NOT go up). So basically, with that in mind, I've had a .25 an hour raise in two years. The Kohls culture does not set up their people for success in most cases. Training is almost non-existent. I've seen part time employees show and tell Asst. Managers how to do things.

Pros

The 15% employee discount is boosted several times a year during associate shop days. Time off without pay is easy to take. Most of the people are nice to work with.

Cons

Recently I was informed that as a part-time employee, I could no longer work more than 26 hours/week! The pay is just above minimum wage to start and lower than most retailers in our area. More skilled positions don't make much more. Staffing is inadequate, leading to heavier work loads for those that are there. Excellent customer service is supposedly the highest priority, yet nearly impossible due to lack of employees scheduled.
