Pros

Kohl's is really good about transferring you to another store when you move. They are good about working around school, and your personal life. The employee discounts aren't bad either. The employees on the floor are fun to work with and are usually really nice.

Cons

I worked previously at another Kohl's store. Management was really great. They helped out on the floor or register when needed. They pushed credit, but they did not overdo it. I now work at the Kohl's in North Logan and I HATE it. I've talked to several employees who all feel that the store manager does not care about them, and does not thank or appreciate the hard work they put in. Recently management started these "Accountability Worksheets" for the cashiers, where the push credit like crazy and you either get a "Pass" or "Fail" at the end of your shift. Our credit goals are usually 1 for every hour we are scheduled. This is easier said than done, especially when the majority of customers already have a Kohl's card. At the end of your shift, if you you haven't made your credit goal (even if you are one away from reaching your goal) you get a big fat "FAIL". Most of us cashiers don't make our credit goals even though we push and ask every customer. No employee wants to be told they fail after every shift. Most of us cashiers have talked and agree that we all feel like not even trying anymore. These "accountability worksheets" deplete the enthusiasm of working at Kohl's, and make every shift extremely stressful. If you get enough "Fails", you get fired. And the days that you get over your credit goal, the managers don't care. I've immediately started looking for a new job, I just feel like all my motivation and enjoyment about working at Kohl's is gone. I'm even one of the best credit-solicitors, and I don't achieve a credit every hour I am at the register, regardless of how much I push. The management at this Kohl's is horrible, and the store manager could care less if you are satisfied with your job. The management is also horrible about letting you leave when you are scheduled to be off. I was refused my break, and made to stay almost 1.5 hours AFTER my shift had ended. To me, this is just extremely rude and unprofessional. My manager didn't even ASK me if I could stay, she just refused to let me go home.

Pros

Salary and Bonus is GREAT for a SM . I made 143k total compensation in 2009! Store environment is clean and neat ! Store average customer clientele is good.

Cons

Way too may hours for salaried SM and # salaried ASM's Always losing your day off to prepare for a big visit with no comp day off year around. Way too many visits from RVP, SVP and even higher. Upper management is VERY Arrogant and treats you like you are trash. Always in gotcha mode. look for all your Opps with No recognition for any wins! Way too much unnecessary workload that takes us away from the customer and adds NO value to the bottom line or the company profits.

Pros

Small discount on merchandise Clean atmosphere Work is indoors, Heat and Air Conditioning Good retail experience, along with learning how to talk to people

Cons

Poor 'incentive' to get kohl's credit cards Employee 'incentive' system was very unfair for a majority of employees. Employees that management thought had the most credit card getting potential benefited and not necessarily the hardest workers) Store would not admit to it but hours are based on how many credit cards you successfully solicit on a weekly basis. Over-praised if you get credit cards (sort of how you would treat a 4 year old if they did something right) Constantly hear about complaints from supervisors (made by customers) and not a single praise (unless it's credit card related) Constantly badgered about 'getting credits and e-mails Supervisors played favorites No clear communication between supervisors, one would tell you to do something and you would be reprimanded by another for following orders. Supervisors are 'write-up happy', Was written up for saying the word 'underwear'. Supervisors would make excuses for why you cannot get more hours, It didn't matter if you begged on your hands or knees or had any kind of sob story it all depended on the credit cards. Have been yelled at by supervisors in front of customers Breaks were unscheduled and they would usually want me to take my sometimes only break about 30 minutes into work Store sound track repeats every 30-40 minutes Will not give a recommendation if a future employer calls, they try to make the employer pay for a recommendation. I have lost a few job opportunities because they would not give a reccomendation.
