These leaders prioritize appearances over actual development, focusing on impressing David Kohler rather than driving meaningful progress. The R&D leader, particularly in the design function, lacks professional expertise and focuses on winning design awards or securing publications rather than perfecting the design or development, or even aligning with other executives. As a result, numerous projects have been canceled, yet these leaders gaslight their staff, claiming their work was adequate while blaming other functions for failures. Staff members are constantly complaining, trapped in a cycle of being sacrificed in these meaningless conflicts.
