Nope, keep looking. It's not 1987 and Greed can be bad.
Pros
What a great job LKQ has done in building a solid network of stores and customer service.
Cons
What a terrible job of using the "greed is good" mantra to have salesmen fighting each other to make sales and steal from each other. I was hired and trained, that went well. Then I was given a list of wholesale customers to call and was told that we should try to find the customers that were unhappy with their current salesman (fellow established employees) and try to steal the accounts. Following instructions is easy, finding unhappy customers is easy, but keeping them is difficult. Once their former salesmen realize he has lost his established customer, he just calls them and tells them that he will give them a better discount. They tell their established customers that they are making a mistake buying from the new guy because he cannot offer as good a discount. Results: Your hard work is lost, and the company loses money when the established salesman lowers the profit margins. Established salesmen are paid on commission, new salesmen get a salary and are told after a year that if they do not steal enough customers, they will be terminated or starve when they are put on commission instead of salary. Management starts putting the pressure on after 6 months. In the time I was there (about 11 months) just in my location 4 salesmen quit, and 2 took leave of absences do to stress related health problems. Manager spend their days refereeing the constant line of salesmen that accuse others of staling from them, training and overseeing new people, and interviewing new hires to fill the constant empty spots opening due to their terrible business model. Work as a team to help the customer? Suggest that, and you are looked at like you are an idiot. The company believes the best way to sell product is to cause adversity and strife between their sales force, and the internal strife and competition will sell more parts. Looking to get into fights every day? Think you can steal enough from the guys that have been there for years? Go for it.
