Pros

Some great technology, impressive IP portfolio for an SoC architect to work with, and strong engagement with premier customers. Some really talented people with all the right motivation. Positive attitude to employee well being, going a little more than platitudes.

Cons

The Avago take-over has gutted the motivation with its focus on immediate profit.

Great Company to work before Avago Acquired

Pros

LSI: Used to be a very good company to work. Lot of opportunities to learn and grow in a good work environment. Compensation on par with industry. Post Avago Acquisition: Lot of uncertainty. Not a conducive work environment for growth technically and career wise.

Cons

LSI: Used to be good, till the management made a separate team for customer soc test. The first level management who joined from a different company after a few months brought in the bad work environment. Its definitely not the place to be working,favoritism and lot of dirty politics are in place in the team. If you are a bootlicker then this is the place to be for you. Post Avago Acquisition: No changes.

Pros

Before Avago: LSI was a respected place to work with a good work/life balance. Management respected engineering input and lengthened schedules if warranted. IC design today has become a 24/7 endeavor, which the management recognized by allowing engineers to work from home several days a week. Being professionals, this worked to both the employee and corporate advantage, in the connected world of today. After Avago: I may still have a job, IF: I'm paid below the median, youthful, and don't ruffle any feathers...... Oops, strike three ......

Cons

Before Avago: LSI was a primarily a product focused company with little emphasis on innovation and research, unlike part of its AT&T Bell Labs heritage. Periodic layoffs and hiring to match headcount to budgets with little regard to maintaining world-class talent. After Avago: Being unable to escape.
