Pros

I worked there for a year and a half. Parking is easy, there are nice people there, and catered lunches when I was there once a week. Would be a good and easy place for someone who is fresh out of undergrad to find a job; as they hired them quite often. For someone who is new to the industry, you'll be exposed to a lot of new techniques that they will teach you. The more you're willing to learn above your normal day to day techniques, the more responsibilities they will give you (however, keep in mind, this does not mean any increase in pay at all even though responsibilities can drastically go up). If you know all of the pros and cons here, it's not an awful job. You can use this job as a way to gain experience and springboard into a better job. I suggest you go in, keep your head down and get your work done. Don't feel guilty when you leave 'on-time' as people will 100% try to do that. There is nothing wrong with working a 40 hour work week here, even though many people will say otherwise. If you get to run a team, sometimes they will send some people to off-site conferences to learn soft skills that they can't teach, which is nice.

Cons

The hours there aren't terrible, but they aren't great. Expect to start pretty early in the day, you will have to work nights, weekends and holidays - there is no way around it. When I was there, if you're salary, you will not get compensated for those extra hours/days with extra money or compensated time. It is just expected you do it. If you were lucky enough to be hourly, like most of the people who were fresh out of undergrad, good for you. That is what I would recommend you stay at. That way, you get to get paid a bit extra for your extra time, but they pay you your hourly rate for the first 8ish hours you work overtime. After that, you have to get management approval to go over and paid more - which does happen during busy season. They don't want to pay you more than they have to. They try to instill a close knit community there, but often times use this against you for not volunteering to helping out on top of your heavy work load or during off hours and your personal time. They will notice when someone does this often, and claim it helps in promotions/ect. However, I only saw people who were frustrated with lack of promotions for all of their extra time spent and time lost. With having a lot of people who are fresh out of college, there is a lot of gossip. Try your best to avoid it. As I was leaving, there was talk about getting comped time if you work holidays or weekends, but management was fighting the issue. Since you are working with animals, you have to have 24/7 care, which likely means on the weekends and holidays you work, you'll be there for a good portion of the day. A lot of this job is repetitive, and you won't critically think much at all. For that reason, I suggest if you have a higher education degree, you stay away from a place like this. Your degree is virtually worthless, and people in management have come out and said this to us. You won't use it or benefit a great deal from it here. I think one of the most frustrating things was that since they used to be a small company, and now are a medium sized, all of the original people who started there are now up in management positions, for better or for worst. What this means is that there are people in those positions who may not be 100% qualified but are there now and likely will not be leaving those jobs any time soon since they are now away from all of the grunt and overtime work. So keep that in mind if you are thinking you want to work here and stay for a while to work up to a management style role. A lot of times management will not budge on change because it is the way the company has always been run - regardless if it is a good idea. Yearly bonus is not great. One year, even though we had record sales, we had to fight for a yearly bonus. Management was not going to give it to us. In the end we got about half of what was expected, a couple hundred bucks was better than nothing. Lastly, they really don't care about any of their employees who wasn't with them from early on and in management. They view everyone as replaceable and they 100% have said that in company meetings.

Pros

Parking is convenient. The location is good but you need a car

Cons

Long hours, low pay, hard working employees ask for so little but still aren't appreciated. Turn over is high because management is unqualified to lead.
