Pros

Great place to work as your first job because it provides the stability and pace that is usually appreciated by new graduates to plan and execute their future advancements career wise. Lamar University provides fantastic benefits package with great health insurance. It has a small college town atmosphere where painting the town in cardinal red is not uncommon. There are events all through the year that will make you feel at home. Other benefits that are small but help include free parking facilities for staff members (so you do not have to fight with students for parking spots). A good place to work I'd say.

Cons

Salaries are not up to par with other universities but the cost of living in Beaumont isn't that high so that makes up for it. Career advancement is very limited with human resources taking a good share of decision making in their own hands (even though they have no idea about the employee). There are no performance related bonuses or promotions. It is a typical government office. Senior Management some how feels that they need to be in the limelight all the time as opposed to the usual students who are in the limelight in most universities. At first this is not a bother but it gets to you after a while. If you don't believe me, pick up a Cadence magazine and count the ratio of Sr. Mgmt. photos to those of students and you will know what I am talking about.
