Pros

Variety of projects (although you won’t personally work on a variety of projects) and lots of “big name projects,” some really great employees, competitive vacation time after first 3 years

Cons

The COVID response was almost non existent. There is a stigma around working from home at LandDesign and people were pressured to never work from home or come back by June 2020. When working from home, connections are slow and lag. Positive cases were only shared if you sat directly next to the positive person. People are not given work from home set ups as new hires. Work from home is not an option unless there’s an “emergency.” It’s very hard to get to work on a variety of projects or the flashy projects if you aren't placed in that group to begin with. And if you’re not placed within one of those groups that works on legacy type work, promotions will be hard to come by since your boss isn’t taken as seriously. On boarding and training is non existent. There’s no process of training for new hires and very little training while you work there. Definitely no training for management roles which becomes apparent with communication issues within groups. Reviews are informal and there’s no required forms for management to complete and share with HR and their team. Goals and promises are pushed aside to meet unreasonable deadlines. Culture is emphasized and praised but the actual culture is working late hours, staying late for the visual (no overtime), and not sharing information freely (honesty and transparency are not part of the culture). The latter causes unbalanced salaries and rumors. Praise is uncommon, going above and beyond is expected.

Pros

Artsy vibe, cool atmosphere, and several genuinely friendly people. Hard work is appreciated, but don’t expect for that hard work to get recognized or lead to future opportunities.

Cons

There is a significant amount of greenwashing from culture to design initiatives. It is a corporate climate that they claim is “not corporate” where you have to rub elbows to be recognized and have future opportunities. There is little to no work life balance and very little mentoring of entry level staff. Good luck, but just be wary you will sink or swim and probably get pigeon holed along the way...

Pros

The office is cool, cool projects, good benefits, fair salaries.

Cons

They stress “culture”. The only culture I observed were long hours, lack of direction, antiquated workflows and this weird cult like atmosphere. Any place that stresses their culture usually has had to create one because of the workplace being toxic. They let a bunch of people go in the pandemic and did so in 2008 as well. Trust me they don’t care about you at all. First sign of an economic downturn if you aren’t a favorite or one of their chosen ones be prepared to say bye bye.
