Pros

Freedom to run your business as you choose to and benefits of a company that stands behind you every step of the way.

Cons

Wish they offered a higher percentage rate to the owner operators. And if you’re used to been dispatch this is not the place to be,you find your own loads here in their load board.

Pros

There is some potential to increase your earnings if you are lucky enough to have a manager who will let you broker loads rather than deal with greedy shippers who pay less than the bare minimum.

Cons

Dispatchers earn only 6.86% of the revenue that drivers get. Since most shippers refuse to pay truckers anything reasonable, dispatchers usually end up making less than $50 per load. The problem with that is that Landstar takes a minimum of $50 from dispatchers for every load, meaning if you make anything less than $100 on a load, you’re screwed. If you have a boss who isn’t greedy that will let you broker loads, you earn up to 80% commission on the load. Good luck finding a supervisor generous enough to give you brokerable accounts. There is a one-day training on how to deal with customers. After that, you’re pretty much on your own.
