Pros

Lots of technical freedom, scientific involvement, smart co-workers and reasonable work-life balance You can also be LGBT+, turn 30, 40, 50, 60+ and still be an essential part of the work and achievements.

Cons

More attention needs to be paid to engineers (support for scientists already exists aplenty) particularly wrt long-term support for sustainable software beyond project-level funding.
