Accounting & Finance Dept - avoid at all costs

Pros

Core non-upper management team is great.

Cons

This review is for the Accounting / Finance department. Avoid at all costs. New management recently hired has completely changed the tone and energy of department. Before, it was a joy to come to work everyday and the team was awesome. Now, team feels completely different and department is sorely lacking a strong leader. People in the team are leaving left and right (already 4 people leaving this month, including the CFO) and more to come. There will probably be positions open within the group. Leaving this here as a public service announcement, avoid all Accounting and Finance roles here. Every quarter, our employee survey results are the absolute lowest. Scores dropped even more in this last quarter with the arrival of new management. Increasing workload in this department, new company policy of no annual raises, and extremely low morale and abrasive tones from the top make it hard to stay.

First, I am sorry for your experience at Leaf Group. This is not the experience we want anyone to have on the Finance and Accounting team. This can't have been pleasant for you and I empathize with the frustration you must have felt. Second, we'd like to note that there is no policy of no annual raises. Our policy is that we don't do automatic cost of living raises. However, we do promote and reward based on performance. If an employee is dedicated, works hard and does their best to further themselves and the company, an employee will be recognized and rewarded. This has been communicated several ways since we announced the change. We understand that transition is hard for some and as the company does its best to come up with strategies to grow, it will not be the best place for everyone and we wish those who move on to other places the very best. Please note our goal is to always attract those dedicated to putting people first, growing the businesses, adaptable to change for the betterment of the company, and who can be inspirational no matter what their title is. This is how we are going to win as a company. It's our people that make the difference. I would like to emphasize to any existing employees to please talk to your manager if you are experiencing the same feelings. We do not want our employees to feel this way about their team. Communication and transparency are how we can all grow and get stronger...
