Pros

If you don't like your co-worker, don't worry, they won't be around long. Same thing with Principals and Asst Principals.

Cons

1) A few people control everything. Admin doesn't listen to anyone else, even though they brag that they do. 2) New Superintendent is bringing in systems based on "voodoo" (unproven) research 3) benefits continue to decline 4) you'll be forced to serve on teams, committees, and run after school programs without any additional pay.

Pros

It's a good part time job, if you're not looking for anything more. A lot of the drivers get along really well. And if you are a good driver and manage your students, driving can be very enjoyable.

Cons

When there is no school, you DO NOT get paid. Other districts compensate drivers year-round, and pay holiday pay. One District pays you your minimum hours during Fall Break, Winter Break, Spring Break...even Summer Break. Not so with LISD. You can budget your money to pay yourself year-round, but once you calculate it, you end up making less than you really are. And you'll be better off finding a real full time job making $14/hr. Speaking of pay: LISD is still the lowest compensated district, even though "The Board was excited about being able to give raises early and not wait the usual 3 years"...Gee, thanks boss. Some drivers that had been there for years, were making less than a new driver coming in as a sub driver. One driver has been there 17 years, and was barely making $17, but someone coming in as an Alternate can make $16 and change. I fealt bad for her. A big con is the lack of support when it comes to student discipline. Oftentimes you get zero support from the campus and rude, disrespectful, beligerant students retain the privilege of riding the bus. Drivers have been fired because of students without the support of the district because they have to save face for the public. And the stress of it all can be very overwhelming. Some drivers quit before it even comes to that because they see that even their Team Lead won't be in their corner. Video evidence that supports a driver mysteriously disappears, students deliberately tell lies about their driver in hopes of getting them fired. The biggest thing I've learned working at LISD is that there is no one in your corner fighting for you; fighting for your rights as an employee. The district has its attorney's for when they get sued, and its insurance company to fight (against you)when you get hurt, but NO ONE is on your side. They are their own circle, and you as a driver, are not in it!
