Pros

The company is fairly progressive in technology and benefits and is well situated in mid-sized markets where Lee is typically the number one news medium in each trade area. The digital offerings are as advanced as the larger tier1 and tier 2 newspaper groups in the country.

Cons

Lee, like many newspapers, are saddled with suffocating debt. This constant scramble to service the debt, leads to a frantic sales culture, that while successful, is on a self-defeating and unsustainable track. Should the recession continue or go into 'double-dip' it will be the end of the company as it is today -- even with the most recent bankruptcy/debt-restructure in early 2012. The CEO, while well-respected and respected in the industry, is incapable of leading the company out of the mess she lead the company into with the acquisition of Pulitzer.

Pros

Great for an entry level sales person, or someone working in a non sales position. With over 20 years experience, I felt like I was being sent back to sales kindergarten.

Cons

Low team moral caused by too much stress and demoralizing treatment. The pressure level and compensation do not equal out. Low commission percentages, and minimal motivation.

Good ol' boys

Pros

Lots of different places to work, pay is okay depending on the job, most of the lower level staff are great to work with.

Cons

Rush rush rush around your circulation area. Little time is given for work, never enough considering the driving between assignments, and overall little care is given to quality. Don't expect to get very far in the company either—it's filled with good ol' boys. I'm even a guy, doesn't matter. Most of the people I know that got promoted or hired weren't the best and most qualified, they were barely competent family friends. Office politics will play a large role, and upper management won't listen to you.
