Toxic working environment and culture (SG)

Pros

Good exposure to Southeast Asia.

Cons

Management lacks patience in training new joiners and often assumes employees should already know everything from day one. Expectations are unclear, yet employees are still expected to meet them without proper guidance or support. Onboarding and knowledge transfer are poorly structured, and manager/director can be impatient and, at times, disrespectful. The culture reflects strong bureaucratic tendencies. Employees are expected to multitask excessively and consistently deliver beyond reasonable capacity (often 120%). Overtime until 7–8pm is considered normal for the team, and the director/manager openly expects this. However, managers provide little support and are quick to place blame when things do not go well. Recognition and appreciation are rare, even when employees perform well. Overall, the work environment feels toxic and biased, which negatively impacts morale, engagement, and long-term growth.

Pros

Nope, couldn't really find what good about it.

Cons

There’s a noticeable divide between expatriates and local employees, with locals often treated like labor rather than equal contributors, which has been demotivating. One of the major issues is the inconsistent instructions from HQ, regional, and local teams. This causes confusion and inefficiency, as different teams give conflicting directions, making it hard to execute tasks properly. The work environment isn’t ideal either – it’s a manufacturing setting, so it’s dusty, and the roads are bumpy, which creates an uncomfortable atmosphere. Additionally, the company is very bureaucratic. There are endless reports that need to be submitted, and while that’s frustrating on its own, the real issue comes during the winter when the French team takes long holidays. During this time, it’s almost impossible to get any assistance, which leaves employees struggling to get their work done. Overall, I’ve been disappointed with the company culture and work environment. There’s a lot of room for improvement, especially in terms of communication and support for local employees.
