      Great way to get into the utility industry.

      Pros

      Hybrid work environment; get to go out in the field to survey jobsites which helps break up office work lulls. Immediate exposure to cutting edge industry design principles and rich experience environments (Storm recovery work and large complex projects). Willing to train entry-level hires to a good degree of competency.

      Cons

      Utility work can be on and off at times; managing billable hours while learning entry level engineering is tough to juggle especially when there are crunch periods and slow periods. At the time, remote work was a detriment to the learning process, although the flexibility and trust from management was solid.

      Pros

      Quite a bit of flexibility regarding schedule, less documentation requirements than other places, salary is decent

      Cons

      You feel very isolated, lots of turnover in leadership, high expectations without a clear roadmap to get there, you don’t have an actual office so you have to be creative in finding spaces to meet clients, PTO is minimal and consists of 10 days per year with no sick time.

      Pros

      If you are a retired veteran, their benefits and values may appeal to you.

      Cons

      The company will undervalue you as long as they can to keep their stock up and management’s pay higher than those actually accomplishing work. Little to no growth for engineers. Poorly documented and executed promotions.
