Pros

Liberty Mutual has great benefits, the medical coverage is good. You get 3 weeks of vacation the first year, plus 4 personal holidays. The hours you work are generally flexible, most departments (depending on the job) will allow you to come in whenever you want, as long as you work a full day. After a year with the company, they will pay for you to go to school for anything to get your bachelor's degree and something business related to get a masters. The people I work with are a great group of people, very friendly and fun to be around both inside and outside work.

Cons

Some of the downsides are getting into the company. For some people, it can be difficult to even get an interview unless you know someone with in the company who can recommend you, or unless you have something that significantly sets you apart from the crowd. Also, depending on the department, it can be that way with promotions as well. Sometimes promotions are done based on merit, and not posted as a new job, so you get promoted based on if management feels you are ready based on what they've seen you do. After a certain grade level, if you do not have a bachelor's degree, it can be very difficult to move up as well.

Pros

Liberty Mutual is a growing company, already in the Fortune 100. They hire a lot of very knowledgeable people, yet work to promote from within. They tend to treat their employees as partial stakeholders rather than just those tasked with the work. As demonstrated year after year in their employee opinion surveys, Liberty appears to make a sincere effort in responding to any employee concerns. This attention leads to higher employee morale, more projects being completed on-time and on-budget, and results in better results and better customer service. Liberty also goes out of their way to help provide a comfortable work/life balance, through ample and flexible vacation time, and even flexible scheduling day-to-day.

Cons

Liberty Mutual is a rather large company, and as typical with larger organizations, change is typically slow and sparse. Being a corporation - and much more significantly an insurance company - requires a good deal of standards and compliance. While Liberty does an excellent job keeping in compliance, the effort sometimes makes even the simplest jobs frustratingly difficult.

Pros

Liberty offers the best opportunities, salary and benefits of any company in this area. It's a financially solid company and I am confident in the management. The advancement opportunities are there for the taking, you're in control of your career here.

Cons

There is a strong culture here, that doesn't work for everyone. The time off is put into one pool of days, I feel that that encourages people to come to work sick, instead of having time off during nice weather, etc.
