Decent first job!

Pros

It was good as a first job. I worked with a great team and was given a lot of opportunities to showcase my existing skills and build new ones at the branch level despite the fact that I only worked part-time.

Cons

There were not a lot of long-term growth opportunities available, especially if you’re wanting to pursue library work as a career. If you’re looking to work for a company with good compensation and benefits for employees, I don’t think this is the one I’d go with personally. However, if you’re just starting out in the workforce or are studying/working towards an MLIS, working for LSSI is a decent option for skill and resume building at least.

If you are starting out in your library career and want to gain experience, but you don’t care about being trained, receiving fair pay, and being supported by management, then this is the company for you.

Cons

Below market compensation, lack of training, working for a library franchise, senior management will never care about you, HR is there to protect senior management …

Terrible pay, awful people to work with/ under, and they do not care about you as a person at all.
