Pros

If you love history, there is a lot of it here.

Cons

Psychopathic management mixed with internal Byzantine politics makes for a horrific employee experience. There are massive amounts of money being wasted every year on trivial "special" projects that have no relevance to the Library's purpose.

Pros

-Variety of interesting work (answering calls/emails from congressional staff, writing long reports, analyzing draft legislation) -Met some great colleagues -Room for growth not dependent on people on your team leaving (though promotion process is tedious) -Good salary, & transparent salaries since nearly every employee is paid based on the federal GS scale -Generally 40 hour work week & not expected to work outside of that -Great employee union!

Cons

-Org was going through some major growing pains due to hiring more diverse staff but existing staff being mostly older, white, and male -Some senior staff are dismissive of new/younger staff -A lot of your job satisfaction may depend on your direct manager & division manager, so experiences vary widely -Leadership was very old fashioned, anti-telework, anti-union (this may change with the upcoming leadership change, but the culture is pretty ingrained across upper management) -During the few years I was there morale was generally very low and turnover high

Pros

Good salary and benefits, access to library collections

Cons

Different rules for management and staff, e.g. management could switch telework days, fall asleep in meetings, use library equipment for personal use. Many managers have no idea how to use technology tools as simple as Outlook calendar
