Pros

Still the leader in libraryland. Outstanding collection, general and special. Prestige of working there affects even the cynics. If you are looking for any 20th or 21st-century publication, 99.9% of the time, it's here. Twice! We have fabulous rare and special collections: Books, serials, maps, manuscripts, music, audiovisual and graphic materials. The library is still involved in library standards and initiatives nationwide and worldwide.

Cons

Working for the federal government has its pluses and minuses. Nowadays furlough and shutdown are fixtures in our vocabulary. High bureaucracy. Many different agendas to work with. Strong stomach necessary.
