Pros

Good compensation and ability to rack up a lot of PTO; opportunities to take on significant new work and really stretch your abilities... although this is also a drawback...

Cons

There are a lot of negative reviews about working at Lidl's corporate office here, and they're all true - so I won't spend time rehashing what's already been written with regard to the recent RTO debacle, layoffs, and general decline of morale. The last year that I worked for Lidl was generally awful for my mental health, but more so, it's had a significant and lasting effect on my own professionalism. There's a truly nasty culture there - it's cliquey and passive-aggressive and gossipy and alienating... honestly, it meets the definition of a hostile working environment. Success comes from being the most stubborn and selfish person in the room, not from collaboration. I didn't realize how ingrained this attitude had become in me until I started a new job and realized that I had learned to approach every interaction with suspicion and disdain for my colleagues. Now, I'm actively working every day to unlearn this. In short, I'd caution anyone against working for Lidl - but especially younger workers who are still learning the bounds of what's acceptable or professional. It's not only an unpleasant environment in the moment, but it may derail your professional development and affect your success at future employment for years to come.

Pros

None that are worth mentioning except decent health insurance.

Cons

Non-existent work life balance. Stressful is an understatement. Upper management is comprised of young, arrogant Europeans who think they rule the world of grocery retail, but haven't any idea what good leadership means. Be prepared to throw away your evenings and weekends to the whims of bosses who have unrealistic expectations. My worst career experience. The salary may seem alluring, but it is not worth one's sanity. Rampant nepotism. Career opportunities are there but for a reason. If everyone is leaving they have no other choice than promoting the ones left although those might not be the best ones - it's such a mess!!! If the Current Lidl US Leadership would have started the business back in Germany (in the 70s) it would definitely not be where it is today! It is about time to get some people with knowledge of the US market into the right positions! Will not recommend Lidl US to anyone - not even to my worst enemies.

Pros

Collect as many pay checks as you can until you get something better. Compensate well if you are early in your career. You can say you worked for one of the worst companies in the US.

Cons

Most people have no idea what's going on. Little Leadership. Lidl Europe has just now started tightening the reins. Finally realizing all of the disorganization and waste going on. The are becoming "cost conscious" which is ironic. Might be one of the most interesting unfolding events in town. There is a joke that people are only sticking around to see what happens.
