Pros

Good pay, but not paid for breaks. Staff are generally friendly, worked in a few stores and on a whole everyone is lovely. Most managers are very friendly and approachable. Hours can be flexible to suit. Staff discount on all products. Christmas care package of lidl products and 20% discount over Christmas.

Cons

Long hours sat on a till doing nothing, 8 hours into a 10 hour shift you will get your break, or 2 hours into the shift you will have to take your break. Always seem short staffed because of 'prod'(the amount of hours allocated per amount of money that the store makes) meaning that jobs have to be done to a lower standard because there is so much to do in so little time. "Unofficially" timed on everything from scan speeds to how quickly you can work stock. Was asked to cover in a store that is an hour and 15 minutes away, so over 2 days had 4 hours of travel with no fuel compensation or pay compensation. Managers are just people who have worked there way up in the company and don't necessarily have any management skills or people skills. Hours can be flexible, I was studying whilst working here and wanted one study day off a week, and every week was put to work on that day and had a call asking why I hadn't turned up. They think that pay is all that motivates staff, of course if is important but there is never motivation from managers who often also seem unsatisfied. Pay doesn't work out much more than other supermarkets because most pay for your breaks, so hourly rate can work out the same.

Pros

Good pay for someone who is essentially a staff member with a different title.

Cons

Lack of personal development, lack of training, unprofessional, unethical, level of professionalism and knowledge of the area managers is shocking. How can an area manager not be aware of Defra in food retail. No interest in improving store operations and new ideas, it's the Lidl way without any interest in improving profitability or reducing costs. Extremely poor HR practices, food safety standards and Health and safety practices. Regular days of 14 hours plus. Believe all the negative feedback, I've personally seen examples of it all in practice.
