Beware everything is ‘gray’ area

Pros

Love the ‘healthy’ vibe great amenities for a gym.

Cons

Below average pay (I worked there 5 years & didn’t have a pay raise for 3 years & still am only at $15/hr. I can make that at target or Starbucks & not be accountable for anything) their response is ‘you get a free membership’ but most companies give perks to employees! They absolutely have favorites! I know of managers sleeping with their subordinate & nothing was done! Only time they took action was when trainers were using the facility to train friends for discount on the side. Even if you report to corporate hr or the anonymous line nothing is done. There are very few salary jobs so unless you are there at the right time you will never move up.

Not Great

Pros

Free membership, fun coworkers, discounts on supplements.

Cons

100% commission pay structure, you do not get paid for discovery sessions (which you are required to offer) so there are times when your schedule is full and you’re hardly making any money. Despite their marketing, the focus is weight loss not real health. The corporate group is also a mess. Someone from corporate told me I’d get fat if I kept drinking protein shakes from the cafe. Inappropriate much?

Pros

You get access to the gym facility which is nice. The coworkers I had are great. The job can be fun.

Cons

The management does not care about their employees. The pay is embarrassing and their way of justifying it is “you get the membership for free.” You’d expect more from a “luxury” facility. When I first began working there they didn’t show me how to clock in properly because the computers were down. Later down the line they wrote me up for not clocking in properly due to their miscommunications. They are nickel and diming me for $15/hour. Another con is that they do not pay you to get yourself fixed up after being in the pool. I can’t be anywhere else if I am wet after swim instructing, so I figured its part of the job. Apparently not. Transferring to different departments is so difficult and everyone in management does not remember you or keep track of you when positions are available internally. They’ll hire someone at a higher rate of pay before promoting someone internally.
