Pros

You will be forced to work overtime even if you don't want to. It's good for people who want to make more money. The starting wage is $ 14/H. Be prepared for 12 hour shifts constantly but understand that you'll be doing a lot of lifting and machining.

Cons

No ventilation system to speak of and the fumes are everywhere, it's a toxic work environment. The place just stinks, you can smell it from a distance. There is no heating in winter and no cooling in summer. If you work there you are guaranteed to get injured. All Linamar workers do the "Linamar gait" that's that strange one, two shuffle people do after leaving work because their feet and knees hurt so bad. You will probably develop all kinds of issues ranging from problems with your shoulders, back, wrists, elbows, hips, knees to feet. Unfortunately people have been injured far worse. There was a recent incident when an individual was badly burned by an arc flash while doing maintenance.

Pros

The pay was quite decent if you've been on for a long time. Newer employees are getting the shaft, as they're left on contract for longer and longer terms. Also, the benefits were nice, but I'm not sure how that is panning out in the new world of economic turmoil. I really enjoyed and fully used the dental plan. They also have a 3% pension plan.

Cons

Very boring, stagnant work. As a machine operator you generally feel, and likely are, very unappreciated. It is no secret that you can be replaced by anyone. New workers are left on contract far too long. This saves the company money by prolonging the time before they get paid "piece work" and benefits. As it is primarily dealing with auto parts, layoffs are frequent and sudden.
