Pros

You're given adequate paid training and receive consistent feedback to improve Sessions can feel rewarding when you see the students improve and see them happy at their own improvement Pay is really good if your center is in a place that doesn't have $15p/h as state-mandated minimum

Cons

Management is awful. The year before I left, all staff had to take a sizeable pay cut 2 weeks before the winter holidays that lasted well past it. There's very much a "type" of employee that learning centers prefer. I'm not saying that "fake happy/high energy" is the only kind of employee you find, but it will be the majority. Some students don't do well with high-energy teachers, though.

Pros

This learning center offers a proven method of instruction for children with learning disabilities and it is very rewarding to watch them quickly acquire new skills, knowledge, and confidence. The initial and ongoing training is very rigorous and generally prepares staff well for the work. Staff members are intensively screened and generally very well-suited to the job, which makes for good teamwork. Benefits are good. The environment is inclusive of a spectrum of genders and orientations.

Cons

Scheduling can be erratic and confusing for both staff and students, although that has improved at my location over time. The job requires endless patience and creativity combined with strong time management skills and behavioral management skills. The initial pay probably doesn't reflect the demanding nature of the job. that being said, raises and advancements are possible. The staff at my location is not very ethnically diverse, but many locations are quite diverse, so this probably has little to do with company-wide policies or tendencies.
