Pros

The work that I do for this company is very rewarding, and I love the opportunity that I get to make a difference in the lives of the children that come through this program.

Cons

For what the work is, the pay is pretty bad ($22/hr), especially considering that the parents are charged the ridiculous amount of $159/hr. Clinicians in particular are overworked with very little opportunities for advancement, as the company seems to only want replaceable cogs in the machine to serve their corporate greed.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with Lindamood-Bell. We’re glad to hear that you find the work rewarding and that you value the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the students we serve. That mission is at the heart of what we do, and we appreciate your contributions. We also appreciate your comments regarding pay and the cost of instruction. Many factors affect our learning center fees. Unlike a traditional tutoring model, we take a team approach to every student. Clinicians work one-on-one, delivering the steps of evidence-based programs as prescribed in each student's individualized lesson plan. At the same time, additional team members are responsible for assessments, instructional oversight, recommendations, and lesson planning. This collaborative model is designed to maintain a high level of instructional quality and is a key reason students often make extraordinary progress in a relatively short amount of time. We understand the importance of balancing that quality with fair compensation, and we consider feedback such as yours as part of our ongoing efforts to improve our workplace. Concerning advancement opportunities, job openings are posted internally, and managers meet with employees to discuss individual career paths and professional development. While we appreciate your candor in this forum, we encourage you to reach out directly to your supervisor or to the Human Resources Department at support.hr@lindamoodbell.com or (805) 546-5693 to further discuss any questions or concerns. Thank you again for your feedback and your dedication to helping students succeed.

Strong Core Business Compromised by Mismanagement and Greed

Pros

Core intervention programs for Decoding and Reading Comprehension are incredibly effective and truly unique. Spending one summer working here is a good idea (then RUN!) if you teach reading intervention, because it will give you a whole new toolbox. Learning to administer and interpret those assessments is another transferable skill you can take with you, if you're able to be trained. If your student/child has severe issues with sensory-cognitive processing, and you've tried other programs but they don't work, this just might be it and is worth a second look. The evaluation is a good deal for parents no matter what, because all the standardized assessments they use are legit, and you can take the data with you to another service provider instead of paying Nanci Bell's exorbitant fees.

Cons

The wages paid are not fair to teachers. They see a tiny fraction of the rate being charged. In the big picture however, this company's culture and integrity have steadily gone downhill ever since the introduction of Lindamood-Bell Academy, one part vanity project and one part money grab. Teachers (and parents), RUN! These clowns are charging an arm and a leg to give students a sub-standard education, and teachers an unstable, unprofessional work environment. Behind the scenes, this operation is a MESS, and things got much worse after they restructured during the 2024-2025 school year. Working here as someone who previously taught in the classroom increasingly felt like educational malpractice. The lesson plans often don't actually get updated on time, forcing ineffective improvisation far more often than they'll admit, and the poor learning disabled students don't know the difference so they're happy to skate by. When plans do get updated, they're next to useless, because the company is trying to cobble together all these different curricula and pedagogical approaches with no clear guidance or comprehensive curriculum maps from anybody who actually knows what they're talking about. The blind are leading the blind, from the useless "Curriculum Advisors" who check boxes by giving generic advice, all the way down to the unqualified "Consultants" in their twenties with no relevant background other than having some adjacent experience administering the intervention programs and knowing the words to say in meetings. Projects and papers aren't graded by the corporate-level grading team for months, making it impossible to align instruction with differentiated needs accordingly. The buck doesn't seem to stop with anyone except the person writing the checks, so they people-please clients to a fault while writing enough reports to make it look like robust education is occurring. I've seen too many decisions driven by profit over data. It's not a healthy place to work for the long term -- there's a reason so many employees are young.
