Pros

- Really great camaraderie among the training classes (being stuck in a room for 2 weeks with the same people is certainly one way to have everyone bond) - Most of the team members really do care about students and want to improve their reading/math/comprehension abilities - Almost all promotion is internal, so there are opportunities for developments within the company; I started out as a clinician, and after less than 2 years I was offered a position as consultant - Consistent peer mentoring throughout employment

Cons

- Hours drop drastically after the summer season (from 40/week to maybe 12/week) - Very intense schedule; employees are directed to never "waste a frame," which results in pretty constant pressure to perform at a high level. Legally mandated breaks are provided, but are often not able to be fully utilized due to the need to collaborate with the students' next instructor, finish writing blue notes, manage students who try to come into the break room, etc. - Rate of pay does not match either the prices that are being charged to clients or the amount of work that is being asked of employees - Training is provided, but once you're done with the 2-week classroom portion, you are expected to have 8 sessions a day back-to-back, which is very intimidating - Upward mobility within the company does not have appropriate compensation; I believe my increase from clinician to consultant came with a pay raise of about 50 cents per hour, although the workload and associated responsibilities skyrocketed

Pros

You get to work with some sweet kids occasionally.

Cons

Work you to the BONE. Every minute you are there you are working even on breaks. Their covid regulations have been embarrassing. Several students and staff have been infected Students are often violent and need something closer to therapists and you have no way of helping them in that way. They say that they will not allow students who act this way since we are not trained to take care of that sort of thing. The pay is very small and the healthcare options are rare. One of the managers has found ways to actively bully me based on the way I look and the gender I present. You are expected to be available to them constantly but if you aren’t full time then you will have hours scheduled all over the place and it will be impossible to do anything else. They have a very strict way you need to present in your clothes, the way you move and speak and they expect 100% of the time for you to be bubbly and fun as students and cliquey almost cult-like staff verbally and sometimes physically assault you.
