Pros

My coworkers and the consultants I work with are incredible people. We all have each others back when it comes to the stresses of work and watching the students grow has been a consistent highlight of my job. Teaching 1-to-1 means you really get to know them and help kids grow in ways they never thought were possible.

Cons

The burn out is very real. During COVID, the company transitioned to online platforms and have since reversed their desire to expand their online platform almost completely seemingly on a whim (digital note taking back to paper, making teaching from home less and less of an option, etc.). Company policy is so concerned with appearances to nitpick instructor outfits yet they are hesitant to address issues such as the furniture/materials actively falling apart. The center ought to be bigger given how many students, instructors, consultants, admin, and parents are crammed together in the space. The admin team has some pretty awesome people but they're caught between a maelstrom of meetings, tasks, and being the first line of defense from whatever is falling down the corporate ladder -- in the end, they still have to enforce those policies. Over the course of three years, there was one raise.

Pros

Helping people, mostly kids, learn to read and comprehend is rewarding and important.

Cons

Support departments do not feel valued. Compensation could be much better.

Pros

It’s rewarding to see students improve. Many of the families are lovely and appreciative of what you do for their child. Good experience with students of all kinds and all ages.

Cons

This company takes advantage of its employees by overwhelming them with workload and spreading them too thin. They’ll throw more responsibilities at you and expect you to do other people’s work without any additional compensation. They drive many of the most competent employees to realizing they deserve to be treated better and paid more, until they eventually quit. That’s why many of the leadership is extremely green and don’t know how to run a center, and many centers are going downhill, some are even closing. This company doesn’t seem to care about employee longevity or retention and does hardly anything to incentivize current staff to stay (e.g. they stopped giving annual raises and even stopped annual reviews for that matter). Meanwhile they offer hundreds and thousands of dollars as a bonus to new hires and rehires but long term employees get no acknowledgment and seem to have no value. The pay doesn’t keep up with the cost of living even though they raise product prices yearly. They’ll say they’re not doing well financially but then they promote staff that are already high up to brand new positions no one else even knew existed. Not great business practices overall and lacking morals.
