Salary Cut

Pros

Work with some amazing kids. Get to see them progress.

Cons

C'mon Nanci...Cut our already paltry salaries, and open a "French Restaurant" with paid for "reviews" all in the same month...Jeez, how about focusing on one thing at a time and doing it right...

Not even a good summer job...

Pros

As most employees say, the work with the students is very rewarding. And if you are lucky, the people you work with every day are pretty incredible. However...

Cons

The job will suck the life right out of you. 8 hours of students every day, many with diagnoses, behavior issues, etc. And you make roughly the equivalent of what babysitters make (or less depending on where you live). Significantly less than private tutors. There is NO work/life balance here. In the summer, you will work 8-5. Good luck trying to schedule a doctor's appointment or if you have an emergency come up. There is no such thing as a summer vacation when you work at Lindamood-Bell (except of course for those in upper management). Anyone who cares about your development or appreciates the work you do can do nothing to help you. You will NEVER get a bonus, raise, or acknowledgement based on merit. In fact, during the recent pay-cut Corporate demanded that everyone work harder and do more. The environment at the moment is so bad, I sincerely cannot believe any of the recent 5 star reviews. I genuinely wonder if they are real or if they are Corporate's way of trying to stem the flow of employees speaking out. To date, the company has done absolutely nothing as a show of good will after the recent pay cut. It has done nothing to show appreciation to the employees working the hardest.

the McDonalds of education, only worse

Pros

Rewarding work, quantifiably improving the quality of students' lives by helping them be successful. Good leadership and mentorship in this job and education in general is provided by several individuals.

Cons

After working in many industries over the course of 20 years, LB is the most complacent and back-stabby work environment I've ever been in. New hire training was one of the worst methods of employee training/orientation that I've ever witnessed. I've never felt less prepared or less adequately trained, which is mind-boggling given that this company's mission is education. Outrageous rampant nepotism and ageism. Career advancement is rarely based on merit or dedication or hard work, but on who is more attractive or who dated whom. Critical hiring decisions are frequently not up to the individuals running the center, and therefore do not reflect the challenges, merit, or hard work that actually goes on at a center. Corporate repeatedly mismanages company finances, forcing austerity pay cuts with no warning and with unsatisfactory explanation. Referral bonuses are offered but only selectively honored. Pay and benefits are execrable. Extremely high turnover.
