I can't believe they're still in business - and neither can they

Pros

Unique work environment, they used to be relevant, some of the smartest coworkers I've ever had.

Cons

LL is a small company with big company bureaucracy. Good luck talking to anyone outside of your direct chain of command. Let alone ever getting recognized or promoted in your department. They are completely out of touch with what their community wants & have absolutely no respect for the poor pawns who are paying their bills. Most developers haven't even spent any time "inworld" and have no concept of who uses their product. The markup they have on their land product is astronomical (triple in most cases) and they refuse to use any of that profit to actually update or improve their infrastructure. They perpetuate a monopoly by the largest land owners by cutting them deals on the side out of constant threats and fear of litigation. I think most upper level management is simply surprised that they are still afloat & are milking the cash cow for all it's worth. The internal pay is horrible for anyone that didn't start 3+ years ago and the benefits were depleting year after year. Remote employees get the worst end of the stick - they don't even pay for your internet bill.

Pros

The technology and the remaining Lindens are, as always, the biggest attraction.

Cons

Prior to mid-year 2010, LInden Lab was the extraordinary workplace that everyone said that it was (including reviews on this Site); astonishingly bright, accomplished, and interesting developers all working together on the technology years ahead of anything else. In June '10, the slide began--30% of all employees laid off in one day. After this, a steady stream of resignations from among the most experienced and senior Lindens.Philip Rosedale came back as CEO but only stayed three months leaving the Lab without a CEO for another six moths.

Pros

Some of the people are okay

Cons

You will not get any of the holidays they tell you you will. They will work you and dangle the carrot, but you will never get there. They are predatory and do not care about employees or their customers. They make it impossible for us to do our jobs well and enable so much harm to be done on platform despite being told how to stop it it's negligence at this point. There is no growth because everyone in upper management has been there for 20 years and will die there. If they don't like the way you look or you say something they deem offensive you will be stuck at the bottom rung forever.
