Pros

There are lots of smart people who work here, and all pretty easy to get along with.

Cons

Over the last couple years I've grown to disagree with the direction the company is going, investing a lot into projects I don't think anyone outside or inside the company will actually use. They feel like pet projects gone awry. I can understand the desire to expand into new markets, but nobody inside the company is excited about these new things. There is also a meritocracy problem among the development team. Of course, having good performance is good, but Logos seems more interested in developers who live to work rather that work to live. This is probably also related to a problem they have giving good feedback to employees on their performance.

I'm sorry you didn't like the direction -- or that the whole strategy wasn't clear enough. It's true we're working on a lot of projects. We have a big-picture strategy that involves building out a platform and ecosystem, and that requires a real mix of product offerings and entry points. It's not as easy as just focusing on our single most profitable product, but I believe it will help insulate us against changes in technology, hardware platforms, the market, etc. We're also fans of trying lots of things and seeing what works. I subscribe to the "If you aren't failing a lot, you aren't trying enough new ideas" philosophy, and I know that can be frustrating if you end up working on a project you don't understand the purpose of, or which is canceled / changed after you've invested time in it. That's a communication failure on my part, and I'll keep working to improve it. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for calling us a startup! I still think of us that way, but it's been so long (23 years!) that few others do. Sorry about the lack of stock options: those are a tool of funded companies that hope to have an IPO or exit. We're here for the long haul, to build a lasting business (so far, so good!). And while I think that bodes well for us as a career option, it doesn't create the kind of exit you need for options, etc. Our goal is pay well enough that we're worth it, with the advantage of predictable compensation, rather than the "low pay and a lottery ticket" model you see in some other startups. I'd be happy to talk more about this at an "Ask Anything" meeting, or if you want to meet. We'll keep working on the communication, too!

Pros

Fellow employees really look out for and care for each other. Freedom and flexibility to chart your own career path. Cutting edge tools and technology to work with.

Cons

If you like structure and specific guidelines, you will not like Logos. Dependent insurance too expensive.

I'm glad you like working here! The insurance issue is a tough one. I don't know if you were here when the big explanation of our strategy was sent out by email; I'll post it on the wiki. I'd also encourage you to join the employee committee that helps recommend insurance plans each year when we renew. Thanks for the feedback!
