Pros

I was employed by Long View for over 4 years from 2012-2016. Don Bialik and the executive team are extremely passionate about the company and a constantly developing a sustainable business strategy aligned with the people it employs. When I started, Long View was well below 1000 employees and the Denver branch (my department specifically) were what I consider to be in "startup" mode. This means that they had a fun, lighthearted environment where new ideas were encouraged and the culture was rather informal. This meant that they could make mistakes without a huge amount of consequences but it also meant that they did not have a lot of clout in the market. The work was demanding and we often had personality differences on the team but these are to be expected in a startup atmosphere. At that time, LV Denver invested heavily in it's people, offering an abundance of in-house training and certification courses (which I GLADLY took full advantage of), semi-annual employee parties, client/partner events and recreation sports leagues. Mid and High level employees were in the office the majority of the time and it seemed like things were humming along. Overall, spending on the employees was high and the focus was on creating a positive, rewarding employment experience rather than driving profits. Unfortunately this leads me to my cons...

Cons

During the course of my employment, LV was heavily impacted by the drop in energy prices, resulting in company-wide layoffs and a evisceration of company culture. Calgary, Edmonton, Denver and Houston's client base was primarily vested in the oil and gas industry, creating substantial leverage when the whole thing tanked. This DEEPLY affected company culture and those still employed started looking elsewhere for fear of their jobs, lack of compensation, lack of support and a dilution of company culture. These were dark times people. Management in the Denver office dwindled from roughly 15 people to 5-6 and those who are still there were spread thin, creating an negative energy among the mid-low level employees. Those who carried on did eventually see the light at the end of the tunnel and LV was able to successfully pivot in to new service offerings and diversify their client base. They attracted some good talent in these new departments (cloud, pmo, apps, shared services) and have figured out their new business strategy.

Hi there, thanks so much for stopping by to share your opinion about Long View. We appreciate your perspective, and want to thank you for the level of detail you've provided in the Pros, Cons, and Advice to Management sections. We're happy to hear that you took advantage of Long View's training offerings during your earlier years with the company, and that you benefited from the collaborative culture we've worked hard to preserve at Long View. Along with many other companies in energy markets, Long View was absolutely impacted by the drop in energy prices. It was a difficult year for us, and though energy prices have not increased significantly, Long View has worked very hard to diversify our client base and provide new service offerings which we believe will only lead to greater prosperity and success in the future. We truly appreciate your comments in the Advice to Management section, and will absolutely take some of your ideas into consideration! The people at Long View are the cultural totems for the company - we couldn't do all that we do without the wonderful individuals employed within the company. We want to thank you for being one of them for the 3+ years you worked at Long View! All the best to you.
