Great benefits but slow advancement

Pros

Generous benefits, such as health care, training and time off. Great work life balance.

Cons

Takes forever to implement any actionable items. Good luck on moving upward in your career, it will take years and may never happen because you will need to wait for the person above you to either retire or drop dead.

Pros

Great benefits. Very smart, and a lot of good people (mostly). Above-average pay. Good PTO. There are many excellent therapists who could help make the entire organization better, if the higher ups would only listen.

Cons

Really poor upper leadership - they will fire you or throw you under the bus without a second thought, if it benefits or protects them. Poor job security - many people are forced to retire, resign, or are outright fired in that first year, which is considered "probationary." I've worked in many different industries and sectors, and this was by far the longest probationary period I've come across. Honestly, it's pretty egregious and the county takes full advantage of it when it comes to firing a probationary employee if they don't toe the line that first year. Lack of direction for most jobs, with no clear timeline or goals for developing and growing into a role. Lots of "that's just how we do things." Strong opposition to innovation - even for county government. Strong opposition to newer and younger employees, until they've "paid their dues." Slow to adopt industry norms and standards. Completely obtuse and truly horrendous documentation system that adds hours onto every assessment/treatment session unnecessarily. Highly unethical decision-making by a small minority of clinicians, which middle and upper management are unable or unwilling to challenge, despite their legal/professional/ethical obligations to do so.
